Gulmarg Backcountry Explorer Tours

Ski Gulmarg, Kashmir 2008. Backcountry Snow Tours is very excited about our 2008 Gulmarg backcountry explorer tours. We believe that Gulmarg offers the best lift accessed backcountry outside of Europe. In 2008 your guide to this vast terrain will be one of the most experienced ski mountaineers in the Himalayas, Ptor Spricenieks, who knows the area around Gulmarg as well as the local shepherds who graze their stock here in the summer. With the highest lift in the world taking you to the top of a ridge containing 15 distinct bowls with descents of over 1500 vertical metres possible, not to mention the endless terrain to the South and West of the ridge, Ptor will take you to all the best lines. Despite having a lift Gulmarg is almost entirely backcountry and almost all of the runs need touring equipment to get into and/or out of. This means that fresh tracks can always be found as most of the skiers are limited to a small area of the ridge. This is big terrain and full touring equipment and a good level of fitness are needed to make the most of this epic corner of the Himalayas. We are offering two 14 day fully guided Backcountry Explorer tours in 2008, each limited to just 6 people, so book early. Also, we can arrange Personalised Backcountry tours if you are going to Gulmarg independently.
